Bali as a base, not just a beach
More than 50 regional and global principals already use Bali as a soft base for family-office activity, coordinated through a single desk. What the emerging IFC would add is a formal wrapper — and that wrapper does not exist yet.

01 — Where things sit
Singapore or Bali? For most principals, both
Not a relocation decision. A question of which function belongs where, and the honest split is unglamorous.
Keep in Singapore
- Regulated vehicles and licensing
- Cash management and global custody
- Treaty-dependent holding structures
- International schooling concentrated in one city-state
- Predictable, fast licensing paths — higher upfront cost, clearer outcome
Run from Bali
- Principal residence and the daily rhythm of the family
- Origination and deal flow across eastern Indonesia
- Site inspection of land, resorts, marinas and fleets
- Indonesia-focused investment SPVs
- Lower operating and senior staffing cost — with a caveat below
Most principals currently treat Bali as a satellite base during Asia seasons and defer formalisation until the IFC framework is clear. Senior international talent still expects packages indexed to regional hubs, so the cost advantage is real for operations and thinner for leadership.

02 — Definitions
What "family office Bali" means in 2026
Less a regulated financial entity than a decision about where principals and key decision-makers live, meet and scout. Most setups use Bali as a physical base while the structure itself stays offshore. Discussion of a formal wrapper centres on the proposed Kura Kura family-office special economic zone on Serangan, where the KEK and PFII rules are still evolving. In practice the work has three tracks running in parallel: residency and immigration, sector due diligence, and coordination between offshore wealth structures and any Indonesian entity.
Read the IFC status- Track one
- Residency and immigration planning
- Track two
- Sector due diligence — tourism, marine, land
- Track three
- Offshore structure to Indonesian entity coordination
03 — What a base costs
Numbers a principal can plan against

04 — Getting started
A light footprint first
The pathway most principals use to test a Bali base without committing to one.
-
01 Step one
Residency
Investor KITAS or Second Home visa, arranged through licensed agents.
-
02 Step two
Operating entity
A PT PMA, only where there is genuine Indonesian operating activity.
-
03 Step three
Ground support
Staffed villa or temporary office, trusted driver, security detail and a dedicated liaison.
-
04 Step four
Pre-scout

Quiet weeks are the norm: discreet villa accommodation, VIP clearance, unbranded vehicles and carefully sequenced visits with private time built in.
Why are family offices looking at Bali?
A GMT+8 timezone, a deep lifestyle ecosystem, and proximity to growth corridors in Labuan Bajo, Sumba and Raja Ampat. Operating and living costs can be lower than comparable hubs.
What infrastructure exists for principals?
VIP airport fast-track, private aviation coordination, secure chauffeurs, staffed villas, private medical concierge and executive protection. On the business side, serviced offices and co-working stock in Kuta, Seminyak, Sanur and — prospectively — Serangan.
How does the desk support scouting?
A single point of coordination: private consultation, bespoke itinerary design, principal-grade logistics, and introductions to sector specialists.
What are the current limitations?
Family-office regulation for expatriates is still evolving, PFII rules are incomplete, and tax and legal advice has to be coordinated through licensed firms outside this platform.
How do you run a quiet scouting week?
Discreet accommodation, VIP clearance, unbranded vehicles and sequenced site visits — with off-calendar meetings and private time deliberately built in.
